Tuscaloosa Sherriff’s Deputy Charged with DUI. Tuscaloosa deputy, Patrick Bailey, has been placed on paid leave after he was involved in an accident that took place on Friday November 15th.  Bailey was arrested by state troopers on DUI charges after his personal vehicle struck an 18-wheeler near exit 79 on I-20/50 southbound around 3:30 a.m.  The driver of the 18-wheeler was treated for minor injuries and released from DCH Regional Medical Center.  Bailey was released from jail on a $500 bond.

Chief Deputy, Ron Abernathy, reports that Bailey will face disciplinary actions once the investigation is completed.  Patrick Bailey has been with the Tuscaloosa Sheriff’s department for almost two years.

Records show that Patrick Bailey has also been involved in the following accidents since 2006:

  • The first accident took place in 2006 when Bailey’s personal vehicle flipped on its side after hitting an embankment in Jefferson County.
  • The second accident happened in September 2012 while Bailey was on County Road 2 near Hillview in Tuscaloosa County.  A police report says that Bailey swerved his police car in an attempt to avoid a dog that had wandered into the road.  He made a controlled stop after striking the dog and waited for a state trooper to arrive on the scene.
  • The third accident occurred in March 2013 when Bailey attempted to respond to a suspected robbery.  He lost control of his patrol car and hit a guard rail on New Watermelon Road.  The police report shows that Bailey blamed the crash on slick road conditions.

These three accidents didn’t involve alcohol or lead to any charges against Bailey.

Shelby County Woman Charged with Murder and DUI. Amanda Rhoden Kizzire, 31, is facing charges that include murder, driving under the influence, and reckless driving, after she was involved in a head on crash that killed a motorcyclist last Friday on U.S. Highway 31 in Chilton County.  Kizzire had her initial appearance in Chilton County District Court on Tuesday after police issued an arrest warrant Monday on a murder-reckless charge stemming from the crash.

The incident took place on September 6th when Kizzire’s SUV collided with David Thomas Bryant, 35, who was driving a motorcycle.  Although the wreck happened inside Chilton County, the portion of road near the wreck is patrolled by the Calera Police Department within the city of Calera’s jurisdiction.   Deven Heathcock, who is an investigator with the department’s homicide unit, reported that Kizzire was traveling northbound in the southbound lane” when she collided with Bryant.  David Bryant was killed at the scene and Kizzire was transported to UAB hospital to be treated for injuries.  She was released later that day.

Kizzire was arrested and brought to the Chilton County jail where she is currently being held on bonds totaling over $150,000.  Her preliminary hearing has been set for September 25, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at the Chilton County Courthouse.

C.J. Robinson of the Chilton County District Attorney’s office said the investigation is still ongoing and further details could be released at this time.

Dauphin Island Councilman Arrested for DUI. Phillip Patronas, a Dauphin Island council member, was arrested early on the morning of July 29th on charges of driving under the influence, and disorderly conduct.  Records show that Patronas was booked into Mobile County Metro Jail at 1:46 a.m. and released several hours later.  Dauphin Island Mayor Jeff Collier believes the arrest shouldn’t change Patronas’s position on the town council.  He and the other four council members have decided they will “wait and see how everything plays out” before making a final decision.

Eyewitness reports say that Patronas, 56, was driving down DeSoto lane in route to his home around 1:30 a.m. with police close behind.  Several officers on the scene spent time interviewing Patronas in his front yard. Reports show that police were on the scene for approximately 30 to 45 minutes.  A short time after, they placed handcuffs on Patronas, pushed him over the car, and patted him down before sticking him in the back of the patrol car.

Dauphin Island Councilman Arrested for DUI Conclusion: Records show that this was not the first run in with the law for Patronas.  He was arrested on DUI charges in 1989 and also had other arrests including theft of property and for receiving stolen property.

Man Charged with DUI in Lawn Mower Accident. Anthony Lorenzo Ward, of Greensboro, was arrested Tuesday on charges related to a lawn mower crash that took the life of Billy Ray Davis.  Ward is accused of driving a Ford Taurus that struck Davis while he was on his John Deere lawn mower in the paved median at the 139-mile marker of Alabama Highway 69 South.  Billy Ray Davis, 70, was rushed to DCH Regional Medical Center with critical injuries and died a week later.  The accident took place on May 31st at around 1:30 p.m.

Based on descriptions provided by witnesses, an Alabama State Trooper was able to locate Ward. Found his Ford Taurus later in the day on 37th Street East.  The trooper detected an odor of alcohol and charged him with driving under the influence.

Anthony Ward was arrested on Monday after a warrant was issued charging him with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.  An Alabama State Trooper noted in his deposition that, “Mr. Ward was unable to make a safe stop and hit the lawn mower on its right rear side with its front bumper. However, upon striking Mr. Davis on the lawn mower, Mr. Ward fled the scene of the crash.”

Man Charged with DUI in Lawn Mower Accident conclusion: If he is convicted of these criminal charges, Ward could face a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000.

Delaware Man Charged with 5th DUI. Delaware police arrested Raymond Warncke, 33, and charged him with his fifth DUI offense this past Sunday. Investigators say that Warncke was driving his Nissan Sentra on South DuPont Highway near Canterbury Road in Felton. Furthermore, when he was stopped by a state trooper who noticed he wasn’t wearing his seatbelt.

The traffic stop was conducted at 3:50 p.m. Although, a DUI investigation began when the officer detected an odor of alcohol. Warncke provided a fake name to the state trooper but a computer check was used to determine his true identity. Police found Warncke to be in violation of a court order mandating that he not be in contact with a 40-year-old female, who they claim was a passenger in the vehicle. However, he was taken into custody and allegedly was in possession of 11 grams of marijuana.

Warncke was taken to Troop 3 near Camden where a computer inquiry into his driver’s license revealed that he had four previous DUI convictions dating back to 2005. He was charged with a fifth offense DUI, criminal impersonation, marijuana possession. Furthermore, driving with a suspended or revoked license, failing to wear a seatbelt, and breaching release.

As of Monday, Raymond Warncke, was jailed at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $16,501 secured bond.

17 Year Old Arrested for DUI in Crash that Killed his Brother. A teenager has been arrested on the charge of DUI death and serious injury. Therefore, after being the alleged driver in a Memorial Day weekend crash that resulted in the death of his 24-year-old brother.

Joshua Waltman was driving a 1992 Chevrolet single-cab pickup truck. Furthermore, carrying his brother, Joseph Waltman, and their father, Brad Waltman early on Sunday morning.  For instance, officials say that Joshua Waltman over-corrected the truck causing it to swerve across traffic. However, hit several trees on the left side of the northbound lane of Mississippi 613.

According to Mississippi Highway Patrol Collusion Reconstructionist Roy Jacobsen, Joseph Waltman died at the scene. Brad Waltman was airlifted to the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile.  Sadly, Jacobson reported that no one was wearing a seatbelt in the car and that alcohol was involved.

A hospital representative said Brad Waltman, 44, of Lucedale, was in fair condition. Moreover, on a regular floor in the hospital despite suffering from serious injuries.

17 Year Old Arrested for DUI in Crash that Killed his Brother Conclusion: Joshua Waltman, 17, is currently being held under a $10,000 bond. He suffered no injuries in the crash.

This was one of three fatalities investigated by the Mississippi Highway Patrol over Memorial Day weekend.  In each instance seat belts were not being worn.  Last year there were no fatalities investigated by Highway Patrol during the Memorial day holiday weekend; in 2011, there were nine.

Former DUI Officer Sentenced for Driving Under the Influence. A former Boulder DUI enforcement officer has been sentenced to 10 days of electronic home monitoring, 24 hours of community service, and a $400 fine for driving with a blood alcohol content more than three times the legal limit.  She must also undergo alcohol evaluation and treatment while being on probation for one year.

Elizabeth Ward was arrested on December 4th after an Arvada off-duty officer saw her wearing through traffic and fluctuating speeds on Interstate 25.  Eventually, Ward stopped on the interstate where police said she was “having difficulty maintaining her balance while walking.”  According to the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Ward’s blood alcohol content was 0.288.

Adams County Judge Brian Bowen told Ward that her blood alcohol content was “a tremendously high number. You are fortunate to be standing in front of us today.”

Elizabeth Ward was terminated from her position at the Boulder police department following her arrest.

This was the 2nd Boulder police officer to be arrested in the last three months.  In March Scott Morris pleaded guilty to driving while impaired and to prohibited use of a weapon.  Morris received a six-month deferred sentence for the weapons charge and one year probation for the driving charge.

Alaska Man Faces DUI Charges after Crashing into Coffee Stand. On Tuesday an out of control sedan crashed into an East Anchorage coffee hut injuring a woman who was working inside. The Nissan Altima is said to have hit a median on Bragaw Street. However, before going airborne twice and smashing into the side of the Arctic Grounds Coffee Company hut. The driver who stumbled away was identified as Patrick Michael Osbon.

Police officers were called to the coffee stand at 1:19 p.m. where witnesses were able to identify Osbon..  A brief chase on foot took place before Patrick Osbon was apprehended about 100 yards from the scene of the crash.  A spokesperson for the Anchorage police said that Osbon blew more than four-and-a-half times the state’s 0.08 legal limit for blood alcohol content.  A passenger in the car, Jeff Satterfield, said that there were between eight and twelve shot-sized bottles of liquor in the car.

Therefore, medics evaluated the woman at the scene and a friend drove her to a local hospital for treatment.  Luckily it is being reported that she only suffered minor injuries. For instance, that were likely caused when items inside the hut fell and hit her.

Alaska Man Faces DUI Charges after Crashing into Coffee Stand Conclusion: Patrick Osbon has been charged with DUI. Furthermore, leaving the scene of an accident, third-degree assault, and felony criminal mischief.  His arraignment is expected to be this afternoon.

Cleveland Browns Draft Pick Arrested for DUI. Armonty Bryant, who just six days earlier was drafted in the seventh round by the Cleveland Browns, has been arrested and charged with DUI in Oklahoma.  However, this isn’t his first run in with the law. Firstly, Bryant was suspended last season for three games after being arrested for selling marijuana to an undercover officer.

Bryant was pulled over at 3:46 a.m. last Friday near Norris Field, the stadium that he played at while attending East Central University.  A wobbly Bryan first told police that he hadn’t been drinking and was just driving a friend home from a party.  Later, he admitted to having a few drinks.  According to the police report, the officer tried to administer the state’s blood test six times and each time, Bryant replied, “I just don’t want to lose my driver’s license.”

Police reported Bryant “to have slurred speech, a strong odor associated with an alcoholic beverage, and to be unbalanced on his feet.”  A breathalyzer test recorded a 0.098, which is over the Oklahoma legal limit of 0.08. He posted $500 bail and was released from the Pontotoc Justice Center at 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning.

Cleveland Browns Draft Pick Arrested for DUI Conclusion: The Cleveland Brown must not decide if they will bring Armonty Bryant in for rookie mini-camp this weekend or perhaps even cut ties with him totally.  Bryant has yet to sign a contract, so the team hasn’t invested anything in him financially.

Mobile Man Accused of Vehicular Homicide. Alexander Graf, of Mobile, was arrested for vehicular homicide and his second DUI charge late on Saturday, April 27th.  The 28-year old was arrested after police say he hit a bike rider while intoxicated.  He was booked into the Mobile County Metro Jail early on Sunday morning.

The Mobile Police Department was called to the intersection of St. Francis and North Bayou streets around 11:45 p.m. where a bicyclist had reportedly been hit by a car.  Upon arrival, they found a man unconscious in the middle of the road.  That man, who was later pronounced dead at the scene, was 59-year-old Edward Lindsey Mack.  According to the public information office for the Mobile Police Department, investigators believe Mack was riding his bike near Springhill Avenue and St. Francis Street when he was bit by a car driven by Graf.  A witness at the scene said that Alexander Graf did call police and also walked to a nearby fire station for help.

Records show that Alexander Graf had been in jail before on alcohol related charges at the age of 20 when he was charged with possessing alcohol as a minor and public intoxication.  He faced a second public intoxication charge in 2005 and was also arrested in 2006 on one count of driving under the influence.  He currently remains in Mobile County Metro Jail.
